Spiritual Roots To Emotional Fitness

Spirituality is a key life component that contributes greatly to our emotional fitness. With this post I'm not striving for political correctness nor am I attempting to tiptoe around a discussion of religion so as not to offend someone with different views than I have.

Let me begin by making a point regarding the significance and power of spirituality. Throughout the history of the world, from my learning and observations, there seems to be no yearning greater than to seek out, discover and follow deity or some higher power.  It also holds true, in my opinion, that no force, no amount of fame or fortune and no other earthly influence can motivate a human to a course of action more resolutely than the desire to maintain the integrity of one's faith.

With that preface it seems all too obvious that our spirituality is fundamental and even foundational to our emotional fitness. Without it balance in life cannot and will not be achieved, no matter how much therapy, physical exercise, social overhauling, or financial acumen is applied.  With it there is a sense of purpose and meaning to life.  One finds inner strength and motivation to do those things required in other areas of life that, ultimately, bring balance and maximize emotional fitness.

My own spiritual convictions help me know who I am and why I'm here in mortality. My understanding of God is that He is my Heavenly Father and has a divine plan for me and has not left me alone to wander aimlessly through this mortal sojourn. I seek for and receive spiritual guidance and strength on a daily basis which lifts me above the ills of today's world and helps me to navigate through the pitfalls of life that leave a multitude of casualties everyday.

Two substantial elements of most spiritual persuasions are self improvement and altruism. As effort is put forth to better oneself, naturally improvements are realized.  Seeking to lift our fellowman inevitably lifts self and both benefit significantly.

Evaluate your spirituality and put forth the time and attention necessary to strengthen your spiritual roots which will in turn contribute to increased emotional fitness.
