Today Is A Wonderful Day!

We just finished the holiday season.  Most Christians looked to December 25th as a very special day. Many looked ahead to that date with great anticipation for weeks and even months in advance. There are many people who have felt a let down because it has passed. A large majority of individuals, Christians and non-Christians alike, have looked at January 1st as a new beginning. As such most people have made resolutions to try to better themselves in some way.

It is interesting to me how we so often impose arbitrary limits and guidelines in our lives and even let numbers on a piece of paper control us. I hate to break it to you, but there is nothing unique or special about December 25th as a number on a calendar. There is also no intrinsic power with January 1st that can make you change into a better person. What makes December 25th special is what you think about and what you choose to do leading up to and including that day. Of course Christians celebrate Christ's birthday and have family gatherings and think about giving gifts. It is how we think about it and how we choose to behave that makes December 25th special. If you are saddened that Christmas has passed, here's a crazy idea---think about Christ's birth and what He means to you today, tomorrow and every day of the year! Cherish and work to improve relationships with loved ones today, tomorrow and every day of the year! Think about giving and serving others today, tomorrow and every day of the year!

Many people will begin to falter with their New Year's resolutions by January 15th, 20th, or 31st. They will feel defeated and throw in the towel hoping that next year will bring greater success with their attempts at self improvement. Here's another crazy idea---on January 16th, 21st or on February 1st pick yourself back up and keep moving forward on your New Year's resolutions. Who says you can only start to make changes to be better on January 1st? You can choose to do something to improve yourself today, tomorrow and every day of the year!

So here is one more New Year's resolution for you: "I will not let numbers on a piece of paper (calendar) dictate my life! I am in charge and Today is a Wonderful Day!"
